Is it really free? Yes. The check runs in your browser and nothing is stored.

Can it see my Merchant Center account? No. It reads your public storefront catalog, or a feed file you upload. Live Merchant Center diagnostics may differ.

Do I need Shopify? For the URL scan, yes. Any store can upload a CSV, TSV or XML feed.
